Our location in ABBOTT PARK, IL, currently has an opportunity for a SENIOR CYBERSECURITY ARCHITECT. The Senior Architect is a member of the Cybersecurity Enterprise Architecture team. The position will have responsibility for supporting Abbott’s Cybersecurity Architecture Program. The role will be supporting and driving Abbott’s global cybersecurity architecture initiatives across different global regions and divisions. The person in this role is supporting the implementation of enterprise-wide security capabilities and technologies throughout Global Abbott, including ongoing updates and enhancements to existing and/or future enterprise-wide strategies.


  • Apply technical knowledge to protect the Abbott against cyber threats with knowledge of firewalls; intrusion detection and prevention systems; data loss prevention solutions; endpoint protections; encryption & PKI technologies; identity & access management solutions; cloud infrastructure security; log aggregation technology and other leading-edge security technologies.
  • Knowledge of multiple computing platforms and endpoints which include Windows, MAC, Unix/Linux, desktops/laptops/servers, mobile devices (Android/IOS), virtual technologies and Cloud Security technologies.
  • Review and completing detailed risk assessments on new technologies and solutions.
  • Conduct security design reviews from business divisions to ensure they comply with industry security best practices and Abbott policies, processes and procedures.
  • Attend regular technical project and implementation meetings and serve as the security consultant to help guide secure infrastructure practices.
  • Actively assess and recommend tactical and strategic initiatives based on new and emerging threats posing risk to Abbott business and infrastructure assets.
  • Manage remediation efforts after security assessment findings outline weaknesses requiring attention.
  • Document, formulate and enforce areas of security improvements to existing cybersecurity technologies and platforms that balance risk with business operations.
  • Assess threats to the business and deploy countermeasures for those threats.
  • Collaborate with business units, application development teams, and third-party vendors to achieve program requirements while enabling the business.
  • Participate in technical and non-technical endpoint projects requiring information security oversight and to ensure policies, procedures and standards are met.
  • Stay apprised of current and proposed security changes impacting regulatory, privacy and security industry best practice guidance. Apply learned knowledge across key lines of business, including products, practices and procedures.
  • Provide input, coordinate, and participate in testing of new security designs that will impact enterprise-wide supported systems.
  • Manage capital and operational expense budgets to ensure accurate forecasting and administration.



  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information assurance, MS or related field, or at least 10 years in security-focused information technology industry experience. This can include: One or multiple formal certifications: CompTIA Security+, GIAC, GICSP, CISSP, CCSP, CISM, MCSA+Security, CCSA.
  • Experience in establishing system security architecture designs in hardware, software, data and related procedures.
  • Strong communication skills and change management experience.
  • Showing initiative in innovative approaches to challenges in a fast-paced, changing global environment.
  • Must have strong collaboration and influencing skills to partner effectively at all levels and across multiple groups.
  • A strong understanding of the cybersecurity challenges, risks, and industry solutions.
