Basic Function

Develop and deliver quality IT instruction to prepare adult students for IT and Cybersecurity industry certification exams. Serve as the NOVA Workforce subject matter expert (SME) for IT and Cybersecurity.

*This position is funded with non-continuous or non-recurring funding and is subject to continuation based on fiscal year funds and the needs of the college.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Information Technology/Cybersecurity Instructor is a full-time (40 hours a week) faculty position within the NOVA Workforce division. Duties include but are not limited to:
•Provide hands-on instruction and practical training in support of certification preparation courses
•Implement appropriate learning strategies and activities to successfully prepare students to pass certification exams
•Teach subject material to students in various formats to accommodate different learning styles
•Create instructional materials (course outlines, syllabi, student handouts, hands-on lab exercises and training aids)
•Deliver training in both a traditional classroom setting and virtually
•Maintain discipline and order during instructional activities
•Evaluate the progress and performance of students
•Assist in curriculum design and development
•Assist in class scheduling and program management
•Serve as the NOVA Workforce subject matter expert (SME) for IT and Cybersecurity

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity or similar field or equivalent applicable experience or training.
• Significant experience in training or workshop delivery to adult learners

Preferred Qualifications

• IT/Cybersecurity certifications such as:, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Linux+, CompTIA CySA+, Certified Authorization Professional (CAP), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), AWS Solutions Architect – Associate, CompTIA Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+) certification, CompTIA Linux+ certification
• Experience with programming/scripting languages, with particular focus on Python
• Experience teaching IT apprenticeship or contract training programs
• Experience teaching distance learning courses via video teleconferencing
• Experience in curriculum design and development

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

•Ability to teach individuals from different disciplinary backgrounds and with varying levels of technological experience
•Understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principals
•Have knowledge of National Initiative for Cyber Security Education (NICE), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Department of Defense (DOD) standards
•Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
•Critical thinking and problem solving
•Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate workload
•Ability to work in a team or individually on projects
•Ability to adapt to changing circumstances
•Ability and willingness to obtain additional IT certifications as needed to meet required curriculum
•Excellent communicator and able to communicate complex subjects in a clear and compelling way
