A career in Information Security Operations at South Jersey Industries provides the opportunity to collaborate on projects and IT operations tasks to protect SJI’s information technology assets. The IT Security Intern will learn how technology is used to shield SJI’s pipeline and information systems from any adversaries. Additionally, this Intern will learn to provide information security services to employees, customers, and other stakeholders. The Intern will also guarantee that information security practices are deployed in accordance with policies, procedures, and standards. As part of the comprehensive internship program, interns will participate in events which help them build a strong network within the SJI community and with fellow interns. Interns enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work environment throughout this 11-week summer program. The Ignite Internship Program also offers participants mentorship, educational seminars, volunteer opportunities, and visibility within the organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Investigate reports of suspicious emails for indications of phishing and malicious content
  • Triage incoming IT security alerts from various sources and aid in the cyber security incident response process
  • Respond to and resolve end user security-related requests and tickets
  • Assist with administering the enterprise IT Security Awareness Training program, including simulated phishing tests
  • Perform third party IT Security risk assessments on vendors
  • Gain experience with innovative critical infrastructure technologies and systems that monitor and protect SJI’s pipeline
  • Prepare and collaborate on a cross-functional project with the opportunity to present to the SJI Executive Leadership Team
  • Regular meetings with assigned mentor and various organizational leaders to discuss goals and professional development


Required Skills:

  • Talented at Microsoft Office 365, specifically with Microsoft Excel and Power Point
  • Skilled at problem solving and breaking down complex issues into actionable tasks
  • Superb communication and presentation skills, with an ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Intellectual curiosity, with the ability to think critically and creatively and to research unknown topics
  • A “can-do” attitude, with a desire to learn and develop
  • Availability to work a hybrid schedule based out of Folsom, NJ, Monday through Friday during daytime business hours

Preferred Skills:

  • Understanding of fundamental information security concepts and technology
  • Hands-on cyber security or computer science experience from school projects or previous internships
  • Power BI experience

Required Background:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or similar, with a graduation date of Fall 2023 or later
  • The ideal candidate would be a rising Junior, Senior, or Master’s student, however all students are welcome for consideration
